Course Description

Overview

The world is expecting huge number of employment opportunities for skilled jobs of a creative and multidisciplinary nature through forthcoming industrial revolution. India with its largest young population will certainly lead this revolution if these youth are equipped with knowledge, skills, attitude and values. The learners are expected to be expert in one or more specialised areas of interest, while at the same time need to acquire abilities of independent, logical, and scientific thinking along with creativity, problem solving, and decision making skills.

The higher education system in India which is third largest in the world, needs to be revamped to match the changing dynamics of requirements of these learners. Aiming at this goal, the draft National Education Policy 2019 proposed by MHRD, GoI, is all set to change the educational landscape through pathbreaking reforms. A new educational architecture is proposed that is aligned with the aspirational goals of 21st century education and is centered on empowered faculty with high competence and deep commitment, energised for excellence in teaching and research.

Focusing on this new architecture, the Academic council of NRC has designed this online refresher course on “Skills for New Educational Architecture”.

The intended learners of this course are faculty of higher education who would be trained to master the skills needed in this new architecture.
This course being interdisciplinary in nature is open for all in service faculty of higher education.

Syllabus

COURSE LAYOUT

The contents of the course cover various essential skills for teaching and learning and are broadly categorized into eight components. Following are the primary topics that would be covered through these components:1) Academic professionalism: New educational architecture, academic leadership development, professional ethics, academic integrity, mentoring, optimal utilization of resources
2) Critical and analytical skills: Critical thinking, analytical thinking, building power of expressions in students, etc.
3) Life flourishing skills: PERMA, creative thinking, attitude development.
4) Collaborative skills for transdisciplinary research development: Research collaboration and cooperation, Problem based learning, Project based learning
5)Teaching and learning skills:Gardener’s theory of multiple intelligence, levels of learning- Bloom’s taxonomy, classroom management, teaching approaches and strategies, models of teaching, microteaching techniques, Effective communication skills in classroom.
6)Blending technology for efficient teaching:Web designing tools, Assessment tool: testmoz, etc.
7) Teaching skills for differently abled learners: Learning disabilities and its types, Sensitizing teaching fraternity towards differently abled learners, Acts and provisions for differently abled learners, Rights for persons with disability (ACT 2016)
8) Research Skills: Academic & research writing (project writing, consulting report writing), Research and teaching skills, Research based teaching, Research attitude and Aptitude, etc.
