Happiness Can Be Practiced Physically - Training for Happiness
Offered By: TEDx via YouTube
Course Description
Overview
Discover the simplicity of unconditional happiness in this TEDxSannomaru talk by Zen monk Leo Iwayama. Learn how to switch off your brain and focus on your spine and breathing to achieve a state of contentment. Explore the concept that the present moment is all-encompassing, while the future remains merely a dream. Born in Japan in 1985 and raised in Germany, Iwayama began practicing zazen meditation from a young age due to his father's influence. After graduating from Waseda University's School of International Liberal Studies and undergoing training at a Rinzai Zen specialized training hall, he became the head priest of Ganshū-ji Temple in May 2016. As Japan's first half-Japanese Zen priest, Iwayama has been actively involved in various initiatives. In January 2019, he established Flying Monk, offering zazen programs combining historical techniques with scientific backing through on-site and online sessions. Through zazen instruction for companies like Google Tokyo and Toppan Printing, he supports the mental well-being and overall health of working professionals. Currently, Iwayama is developing a tree burial garden within the Ganshū-ji Temple grounds, introducing a novel approach to eternal memorial services that aims to minimize the burden on bereaved families.
