Overview

Explore Artificial Intelligence

What you'll learn:
  • Students will understand Artificial Intelligence.
  • Students will sound like they know what they are talking about while discussing Artificial Intelligence.

In this course we exploreartificial intelligence. Beginning with a brief history of attempts to understand mind and intelligence in philosophy, psychology, and other areas of research.

In a sense, AI is an old science, tracing its roots back at least to Aristotle. Anappreciation of this background is essential for an understanding of the issues addressed inmodern research. We also present an overview of some of the important application areas in AI. Our goal in level 1is to provide both background and a motivation for the theoryand applications that follow.

AI is not going to turn the world into a world without work, neither would robots. This world will forever rely on us to serve it and ourselves using tools that are gradually becoming more advanced. Let's explore here the utilitarian philosophical approach and see that AI is not so much about a collection of Computer Sciene algorithems as it is an answer to a question and that question is who we are.

Later, in level 2, we'llintroduce the research tools for AI problemsolving. These include, the predicate calculus presented both as a mathematicalsystem as well as a representation language to describe the essential features of aproblem.
