Dartmouth Health Continuing Education for Professionals Home, Nursing Grand Rounds “ Mental Health and Wellness in the Workplace: Strategies to Support Patients and Providers Living with Mental Illness, 6/24/2019 8:00:00 AM - 6/24/2022 9:00:00 AM, Mental illness has no boundaries: it affects individuals, families, coworkers and patients.  Mental health costs employers billions of dollars each year. Stigma in the workplace is costly and the #1 barrier to treatment. In this presentation, our speaker will share statistics about mental health in the workplace and explore the underutilization of employee assistance programs due to fear of stigma and discrimination. She will introduce a term called presenteeism and its impact on mental health in the workplace and share a personal story of being a high performing, award-winning professional navigating the corporate world, while suffering in silence with alcohol use disorder, major depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts. Finally, a judgement free zone and its effect on compliance and recovery will be presented.
