Course Description
Overview
Dartmouth Health Continuing Education for Professionals Home, Medicine Grand Rounds - Youve Been Thunderstruck!, 7/24/2020 8:00:00 AM - 7/24/2023 9:00:00 AM, Dr. Green describes a typical presentation and symptoms of a Thunderclap Headache, including sudden onset with diminished severity after 15-20 minutes but increasing in intensity with resumption of activity. This type of headache is considered a medical emergency as the differential diagnosis includes conditions associated with high mortality. Obtaining a thorough history and physical, lumbar puncture, CT scan and vascular imaging studies can identify most causes of acute headaches, which can be followed by appropriate treatment. Medications are safe and effective for Thunderclap Headaches and can often be discontinued with careful monitoring.
