Learn how to collaborate, connect and communicate with your team in today’s virtual world of work with this business skills certificate. These power skills (sometimes called soft skills) are keys to advancing your career in the digital workplace.
Communication, teamwork, emotional intelligence, collaboration, adaptability, and creativity will set you apart as an employee or job seeker.
The courses in this program will guide you to work effectively with others. Working effectively in the remote work environment requires heightened self-awareness and understanding. You will learn concepts, practice important skills, and apply tips and scientifically based models in order to build trust and navigate difficult workplace situations.
Kelley School of Business faculty who are experts in communication and career/professional development will guide you to choose effective ways of creating connections with teammates and others in virtual work.
Here is an example:
After a meeting, you receive a work chat message from a colleague and they seem to be frustrated or angry with you. This scenario is considered a difficult situation. When in a physical office, you can gauge the level of frustration in a way that differs from a chat message. How do you respond? You need to use emotional intelligence, ensure psychological safety and prevent miscommunication. Working effectively with others contributes to your personal brand and social media presence that affects your virtual network.
Syllabus
Course 1: Psychological Safety: Keys to Effective Virtual Teamwork
This course will unlock the key metrics, strategies and techniques to create psychological safety in order to build effective remote teams.
Course 2: Preventing Miscommunication in Virtual Work
Communicating in a virtual environment, whether through email, video, or chat-based platforms, requires a unique set of skills. This course introduces concepts and strategies to develop skills and professionally manage your virtual presence.
Course 3: Career Networking: Build a Social Media Presence
Learn to use social media platforms and social networks to build and advance your professional online presence and career goals.
Develop strategies to connect with your target audience while posting content that increases your industry knowledge and network.
Course 4: Having Difficult Conversations in the Virtual World
Having the skills to engage in difficult conversations in the virtual world can support you in both work and personal situations.
