Course Description

Overview

In this session, participants gain skills to recognize and interrupt bias in a compassionate manner using the CLARA Method for cross-cultural communication. This session aims to provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patients with culturally sensitive care.

Syllabus

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the Ladder of Cultural Competence;
  • Illustrate how the cycle of socialization and worldview can be seen in patients;
  • Identify how our biases and lived experiences may influence our perception of self and others;
  • Identify when to use the C-LARA tool (Check your pulse, Listen, Affirm, Respond, Add) for non-violent communication;
  • Practice the CLARA Method for Cross-Cultural Communication.
