Course Description
Overview
This activity will improve the quality of care provided by the nursing team and advanced practice providers caring for patients with inflammatory bowel disease within the University of Chicago’s Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center through knowledge acquisition and interprofessional communication.
This session will educate participants about the importance of perioperative care and communication. It will also discuss universal messaging for a patient’s surgical education and the benefits of comprehensive communication throughout the perioperative process.
Syllabus
After this activity, participants will be able to:
- State the pre-operative assessment and education that should be provided to patients with inflammatory bowel disease;
- Recall the importance of consistent messaging in patient education;
- Discuss the need for interdisciplinary communication throughout the discharge process;
- Describe the appropriate post-operative care after discharge.
