Join the University of Chicago Medicine Center for Asian Health Equity and Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Illinois Department of Public Health’s Illinois Comprehensive Cancer Control Program for a 3-part webinar series with educational presentations and panel discussions on cancers of the colon & rectum, breast, cervix, and lung.
Cancer is the second leading cause of death in Illinois. The incidence of breast, cervical, lung, and colorectal cancers are higher than the national average. Significant disparities exist for all cancers by race/ethnicity, access to services, socioeconomic status and geographic location. It is imperative to understand the disparities and social determinants of health in cancer patients and identify solutions to address cancer disparities across our state.
This session will focus on how to the diagnosis and treatment of common cancers in high risk and vulnerable patients as well as survivorship.
Syllabus
After this activity, participants will be able to:
- State the importance and components of cancer survivorship comprehensive care;
- Recall the barriers and facilitators for comprehensive survivorship care, including social determinants of health and financial toxicity;
- Discuss the current recommendations for cancer survivorship goals in lifestyle change, including diet and nutrition;
- Describe cancer survivors' psychosocial and financial needs from a patient advocate perspective;
- Explain innovative models for partnerships with communities, patients, and clinicians to provide comprehensive survivorship care.
