This series included several presentations and a review of a recently pre-released article titled “COVID-19 Transmission in US Child Care Programs Review”. Pre-Published 2 days ago in the journal of Pediatrics. Background for the article include: Within 1 week of the WHO declaration of a pandemic, 107 countries had implemented national school closures. In 3 weeks, it had increased to 194 countries. Pertinent to today’s topic, there is a debate over school and child care reopening. The concerns are: Children are efficient transmitters of SARS-CoV-2 and risk of community spread when programs reopen. Discussed the results of several studies. Scientific evidence of the roles of children in schools, how they contribute to the COVId-19 pandemic. Share insights regarding the evidence to date.  Quick summary of what we know about Kids, COVID and schools. Discussed the epidemiology of COVID-19, Kids and transmission. Share insights regarding the evidence to date.   Talked about the risks of reopening, and not reopening, including the rising anxiety and stress in teens and other conflicting struggles. Another topic: Policy Tradeoffs. Discussed how to take mitigation strategies and put them in place in the schools. Talked about how to operationalize at large schools. Require more resources to ensure safety protocols. Talked about how to keep families safe at the primary schools. Over 30% of families report they have no income coming into their homes.
