Overview

Dartmouth Health Continuing Education for Professionals Home, The 2022 Trauma Webinar Series – Part Four: Geriatric Trauma – The Rising Tide, 6/28/2022 12:00:00 PM - 6/28/2025 1:00:00 PM,

With the aging population of the United States, trauma centers across the country are caring for growing numbers of older adults who are injured through various mechanisms. Geriatric trauma patients come in many forms: from the active patient injured during athletic pursuits to the frail patient injured through a ground-level fall. In this presentation, we will discuss new approaches to geriatric trauma management and evaluation and the role of interprofessional teams in the care of injured older adults.

Presenter
Alexandra Briggs, MD

About our Presenter
Dr. Alexandra Briggs is a Trauma and Acute Care Surgeon and Assistant Professor of Surgery at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. She previously trained at Brigham and Women’s Hospital for her general surgery residency and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center for Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery fellowship. In addition, she is focused on the perioperative management of older adults in both elective and emergency surgery. She received the American College of Surgeons-James C. Thompson Associate Fellow Scholar in Geriatric Surgery award for 2020 to 2022. She was the co-lead of a multidisciplinary team funded by the Levy Incubator at Dartmouth to improve the care of older adults undergoing surgical procedures.
