Subglacial Water Flow Simulations on GPUs - JuliaCon 2024
Offered By: The Julia Programming Language via YouTube
Course Description
Overview
Explore GPU-accelerated subglacial water flow simulations in this JuliaCon 2024 conference talk. Dive into the re-implementation of the Glacier Drainage System Model (GlaDS) using GPUs to simulate channelized and distributed drainage at the ice-bed interface. Learn about the importance of understanding subglacial drainage for predicting sea level rise due to ice sheet evolution in a warming climate. Discover how the new implementation, based on a finite difference scheme and matrix-free solver, enables simulations on meshes larger than 10,000² grid points, potentially allowing for Antarctica simulations at 500m resolution. Examine test case model runs, scalability demonstrations, and gain insights into future applications, including inversion schemes and higher-resolution continental-scale simulations.
