Protection on that Erection - Discourses of Accountability & Compromising Participation in Digital Sexual Health
Offered By: Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) via YouTube
Course Description
Overview
Explore a conference talk examining sexual health workers' perspectives on introducing a digital platform for condom distribution to young people. Analyze the discursive resources used by workers to frame sexual health services, service users, and digital technology. Investigate how problematic ideologies around youth sexuality are exercised and reproduced, with workers positioning themselves as gatekeepers and constructing young people as 'mischievous' and 'misguided'. Delve into the perceived corruptive role of technology on 'healthy' and 'normal' sexual relationships. Consider the challenges in developing community-commissioned platforms alongside service providers and question the feasibility of user participation in collaborative, participatory work within this context. Examine topics such as discursive psychology, condom token services, sexting, naming, and framing in relation to digital sexual health initiatives.
