Passengers' Safety Matters: Experiences of Deploying a Large-Scale Indoor Delivery Monitoring System
Offered By: USENIX via YouTube
Course Description
Overview
Explore a conference talk detailing the development and implementation of DeMo, a large-scale indoor delivery monitoring system designed to enhance passenger safety in Hong Kong's subway stations. Learn about the unique challenges faced in creating a practical solution for real-time monitoring of indoor deliveries, including sensor placement on trolleys and complex underground electromagnetic characteristics. Discover how the system utilizes Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) readings to detect delivery violations such as speeding and use of non-designated paths. Gain insights into the adaptation of the classical logarithmic radio signal model for fingerprint-free localization, significantly reducing deployment and maintenance costs. Examine the system's impressive three-year operational results, covering over 200 shops across 12 subway stations, and witness the substantial decrease in violation rates from 19% to 2.7% between May 2020 and March 2023.
