Mapping for Field Robotics - Hanumant Singh, Northeastern University
Offered By: Paul G. Allen School via YouTube
Course Description
Overview
Explore the evolution of high-resolution mapping in field robotics over the past 25 years in this research seminar. Delve into examples from global expeditions in Marine Archaeology, Marine Geology, Fisheries Science, and Polar Studies, examining the role of SLAM and other methodologies. Discover their strengths and limitations in mapping, and learn about recent work in light fields for robotics as a potential solution to address these deficiencies. Gain insights from Professor Hanumant Singh's extensive experience in designing and building autonomous underwater and surface vehicles, as well as his involvement in numerous oceanic expeditions. Understand the challenges and advancements in underwater optical imaging, vehicle noise reduction, and machine learning applications in marine environments. Investigate the complexities of polar robotics, emergency recovery techniques, and the unique challenges posed by low-contrast environments. Explore the concept of dynamic objects in SLAM and the potential of light field approaches in addressing these issues.
