Course Description

Overview

Embark on a comprehensive restoration journey of the Hickok 6000 series, one of the finest consumer-grade tube testers available. Begin by assessing the unit's condition, addressing wood repairs, and inspecting the electronics. Disassemble the tester, repairing damaged corners and wood pieces using epoxy and nails. Verify the authenticity of the island interface and proceed to identify capacitors for replacement. Remove the paper roll to prevent damage during repairs. Replace capacitors, check and fix loose vacuum tubes, and utilize another tube tester to verify tube functionality. Apply Deoxit to clean and re-tension tube sockets, switches, knobs, and other components. Check all resistors and prepare the unit for a power-on test. Adjust the bias knob and static zero of the meter before conducting a smoke test through a Variac. Witness the successful completion of basic turn-on operations, setting the stage for further restoration steps in the next video of this exciting project.
