Hardware Friendly Vhost vDPA: Towards an Efficient and Migratable Device Model
Offered By: Linux Foundation via YouTube
Course Description
Overview
Explore a simplified yet performant vhost-vDPA device model for live migration in this conference talk by Si-Wei Liu from Oracle. Delve into the challenges of live migrating hardware-backed vDPA devices without relying on software-based Shadow VirtQueue. Examine current problems and challenges related to shadow emulation and backward compatibility burden. Learn about proposed new simplified interfaces for vDPA device state save and restore in a vendor-neutral and future-compatible manner. Discover mechanisms for migrating out-of-spec device state and vendor-specific private device state. Discuss potential uAPI additions for hardware-assisted dirty tracking and its operation with the VirtIO PF Admin VirtQueue proposal for dirty tracking.
