Course Description

Overview

Embark on a nostalgic journey upgrading an Amiga 500+ with the ACA500+ accelerator card after more than two decades. Follow along as the process unfolds, from unboxing and preparation to installation and troubleshooting. Begin with a downgrade, removing the old acceleration and reinstalling the original 68000 processor. Explore the ACA500+ menu and choose the F7 option to boot with virtual Workbench disks for a hard drive installation. Learn about CF card selection and partitioning strategies, noting areas for improvement in future upgrades. Discover the quirks of the ACA500+, including its inability to perform successful software reboots. Witness the successful boot to Workbench and the detection of a second CF card. Dive into system preferences, exploring display modes and other settings. Follow the installation of essential software, including lha.run and sysinfo.lha, and observe the performance comparison with a stock Amiga 1200. Conclude with hardware troubleshooting to address the unexpected 512K chip RAM limitation and investigate the fate of the Fatter Agnus chip.
