Course Description

Overview

Investigate why EDI matters with the University of Lincoln

Understanding EDI is integral to developing respect, acceptance, and kindness for those around us, whether personally or professionally.

On this four-week course, you’ll be introduced to the core concepts of EDI. You’ll discover why inclusion matters in today’s society, reflecting on why traditional approaches to EDI have been unsuccessful.

Explore key terms and the language of EDI

Language has the power to help or hinder efforts to increase diversity and inclusion.

You’ll investigate EDI language and learn why it’s important for driving change, particularly in the workplace.

With this knowledge, you’ll be able to develop strategies to encourage a sense of belonging, community, and connection at work.

Examine social inequality and the fight against discrimination in the workplace

Having learned how to apply the correct terminology, you’ll explore the representation of different groups in society and the media.

You’ll use your understanding of stereotypes and prejudices to assess the impact of discrimination at work and the fight for equity in the workplace.

Using this overview, you’ll be able to explain the need to challenge social and economic disparities to help build a fairer society.

Discover the importance of sharing diverse perspectives and lived experience

You’ll finish this course by examining the importance of lived experience.

You’ll learn how engaging with insights from diverse backgrounds can have far-reaching benefits for companies and policymakers, as well as for individuals who experience discrimination.

By the end of this course, you’ll be comfortable using EDI terminology to explain societal inequalities and have the confidence to address disadvantage in the workplace.

This course is designed for anyone with an interest in furthering their understanding of EDI, whether in a personal or professional context.

It’s also suitable for organisations who want to develop employee awareness and practice of EDI.
