COURSE LAYOUT

The Annual Refresher Program in Teaching (ARPIT), 2019 for college and university teachers is equivalent to one Refresher Course in any discipline (in this case, Political Science). Spread over 40 hours, out of which 20 hours will be dedicated to video lectures and 20 hours to the study of materials supplied online, this Course traverses a wide range of topics. Both the content of the lectures and the approach to the topics covered are to be decided by individual teachers specially commissioned for the purpose.

The topics are a judicious mix of the old and the new. Political thought and theory, comparative government and politics, and International Relations are to be taught using recent examples and fresh insights. Indian government and politics will have a special emphasis on regionalism, communalism, religious fundamentalism, and the two-way relationship between politics and media in India. Topics of latest importance in India and beyond like terrorism, the politics of and policy on immigration and diaspora will also be covered. Since Research Methodology is of primary importance in this regard, the use of quantitative methods in social and political research also finds place in the list of topics. The overt objective of the course is to expose participants to the goings-on in the world of Political Science and how its academic and policy relevance is emerging for India and the world.

Being offered by specialized resource persons, this course will not only help to professionally elevate college and university teachers of Political Science but will also enhance and refresh their knowledge of their chosen discipline as never before. The Course coordinators are Prof. Ajay Dubey and Dr. Saumyajit Ray from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.
