ABOUT THE COURSE: This course will enable the students to understand the origin of logistics and evolution of supply chain management concept across product and services industries. The course will equip the students to design local as well as global supply chain networks in a dynamic environment.INTENDED AUDIENCE: PG, PhD and final year UG (Operations and supply chain management) studentsPREREQUISITES: Production &and Operations ManagementINDUSTRY SUPPORT: All manufacturing industries who are directly involved with the manufacturing and delivering products to the end customers, like: FMCG, the automobile sector, e-commerce businesses, logistics partners, etc.

Week 1:Logistics designing and management Modern Logistics Concepts, Factors Contributing to the Development of Logistics, Logistics Service Providers, Measuring and Managing Logistics Performance.
Case Study-I: Designing and managing logistics
Week 2:Manufacturing Logistics: Virtual Manufacturing, Lot Streaming, Cross Docking, Hub and Spoke Models. Strategic Focus and International Logistics: Globalization and International Trade Environment, International Logistics Management, Global Logistics Operator, Lean Logistics.
Case Study-II: Case study on International Logistics
Week 3:Fundamentals of Supply Chain Management Logistics versus supply chain management, Supply chain networks, Integrated supply chain planning, Decision phases in supply chain, Process and cyclic views of a supply chain
Case Study-III: Case study on decision-making in supply chain
Week 4:Overview of supply chain models and modeling systems, Supply chain planning, Understanding supply chain through process mapping and process flow chart.
Week 5:Designing Supply Chain Drivers and Strategy Supply chain strategies, achieving strategic fit, value chain, Supply chain drivers and obstacles, Make or Buy Decisions: Strategic Alliances and Outsourcing, Factors influencing Make or Buy Decisions, Trends in Make or Buy Decisions in context of core competency

Week 7:Designing distribution networks Distribution Management: Role of transportation in a supply chain - direct shipment, warehousing, cross-docking; push vs. pull systems
Case Study-VII: Case study on Designing distribution networks
Week 8:Transportation decisions (mode selection, fleet size), market channel structure, vehicle routing problem. Facilities decisions in a supply chain.
Week 9:Planning capacity and demand Planning and managing inventories: Introduction to Supply Chain Inventory Management: Zero inventory concept, Excess Inventory: A Roadblock to World-Class Manufacturing

Week 11:Designing Smart, Resilient and Sustainable Supply Chains RFID, Financing Global Supply Chain. Supply Chain Designs: Vulnerability, Risk, Robustness and Resilience, Sustainable Logistics and SC Systems, Service Supply Chains, Emerging Supply Chain Designs
Week 12:Asset Management in the Supply Chains. Smart practices in SCM: 21st Century Supply Chains, Supply Chain Relationships, Supply Chain Strategies, Managing the Supply Pipeline for Global Trade Flows, Future Growth and Constraints of Global Supply Chain.
