Environmental Degradation and Surface Engineering
Offered By: Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur via Swayam
Course Description
Overview
ABOUT THE COURSE:The course would offer an extensive knowledge on the different types of environmental degradation of materials, the thermodynamics and kinetics of the individual degradation, examples of component failure initiated by environmental degradation and the scope of their mitigation. In addition, the course would also extend knowledge on the scope of mitigation of environmental degradation of materials by surface engineering tools. Special emphasize would also be given on the application of surface engineering for repairing of failed component. The characterization and testing techniques applied for the characterization of degraded surface and measurement of kinetics of environmental degradation, respectively would also be presented.INTENDED AUDIENCE: Students pursuing BE/BTECH in Metallurgical/ Mechanical/ Manufacturing/ Production/ Aerospace/biomedical engineering, MS in Physics/Chemistry/Materials Science/Life Science, MSC in Physics/Chemistry/Life Science.PREREQUISITES: 3rd year students who attended the courses like “Introduction to Materials”, Metallurgical thermodynamics and kinetics”, and Physics, Chemistry at the BSc level.INDUSTRY SUPPORT: Tata Steel, Jamshedpur, Tata Metallics, Kharagpur, R&D Center for Iron and Steel (RDCIS), Ranchi, Engineers from all the Integrated Steel Plants under Sail Authority of India Limited.
