Overview
There is a transformation in the need of library users and due to ICT, there is a change in the resources, services and products of the libraries as well. Every institution is now trying to compete in the national and international rankings and with the changed roles and services; the libraries and librarians are playing key role.
So the purpose of this ARPIT MOOCs (ETTLIS) is to impart knowledge regarding emerging trends and technologies in library and information services like Library Automation, Digitalization, Institutional Repository and Digital Library Services, Consortia based Services, QR Code, EM and RFID implementation, Open Access, Outreach programs, Reference Management, Open Science, Virtual/Digital Reference Services, Ask the Librarian, Content Management, CAS/SDI services, Profiling System, Discovery Services, Web 2.0 and 3.0 based Services, Disruptive technologies, Use of Social Media, Green Library Concept, Ranking/Accreditation, Remote Login, Mobile based Library Services, Use of Expert Systems and Robotics, Internet of Things, Augmented Reality Tools and Virtual Reality Tools, Semantics, Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning and How to be a Smart Librarian by Smart Involvements etc.
Some people might be thinking that the role and future prospects of library professionals are diminishing, rather we can say that they are becoming more important provided they are keeping pace with emerging trends & technologies in LIS and willing to go out of box.
Intended Audience: The Target Audience of this course is all the Learners who wish to understand and make use of the emerging trends and technologies in library and information services, be it the Teachers or Researchers or Students or Library and IT Professionals, etc.
Learning Outcomes/Objectives: This course will be helpful in keeping abreast of with new trends and technologies arising in libraries. This course is also equivalent to One Full Refresher Course as per theUGC Notification D.O.No. F.2-16/2002(PS)/Pt.fl.II, dated 03/12/2018.The course is an effort to help in the following:
- to enhance professional competence and skills;
- to engage in collaborative team work;
- in taking library and information services beyond the four-walls of the libraries;
- to use ICT tools for effective user services;
- to produce need-based instructional materials for the users;
- to discover new areas of research and enquiry in the field of library and information science.
- to explore application of Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and other technologies to serve the library community.
- To identify New Roles for LIS Professionals to Survive in the Changed LIS Environment.
Syllabus
COURSE LAYOUT
ETTLIS is a course of 40 hours, i.e. about 20 hours of e-content/text/PPTs and about 20 hours of video content at per your pace and convenience. You need to devote just about an hour a day for five days in a week. It is flexible course. We need to complete 40 hours in about four months’ time. It will be a blend of e-text, videos, assessments/assignments and term end evaluations by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The most important part of the course is, Discussion Forum. Here we all can discuss, comment, suggest and empower ourselves with the help of this discussion forum. There will be a list of resources for further studies. There is a group of enthusiastic techno-savvy most reputed domain experts, who provided content and delivered lectures from across the country to support the course, ETTLIS.The contents are subject to change without any notification as per the requirements of this course.
