Course Description

Overview

The purpose of this course is to study the important concepts in Ancient and Medieval philosophy. We will concentrate on the dominant figures of philosophy, and their thought on cosmology, metaphysics, epistemology, logic, ethics, and religion. The Philosophical Schools to be covered are the Milesian, Pythagorean, Eleatic, Pluralists. Atomists and the Sophists. It includes the brilliant contributions of greatest philosophers like Socrates, Plato, Aristotle and religious contributions of medieval thinkers - St.Augustine. St.Anselm, and St.Thomas Aquinas. The course enables the students to master all the basic ideas of Classical Greek and Medieval philosophy.
