Overview

Learn how to ensure all young people get a chance to explore STEM subjects

Anyone working within STEM subjects will know that making science, technology, engineering and maths relevant to all young people is vital. As someone working in a STEM career looking to volunteer with young people, you can inspire diverse young audiences with practical STEM activities and resources, tailored to their interests.

Find resources for inspiring STEM activities

This training looks at how to identify quality science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) resources and practical STEM activities that support all young people, including those with special educational needs and those from a disadvantaged background. You will also learn how to promote racial diversity and gender diversity in STEM education.

Learn to identify, adapt and use credible, high-quality STEM resources that will inspire young people in the classroom.

Become a more effective school volunteer by promoting diversity in STEM education

Engage students in science, technology, engineering and maths activities more easily and inspire young people in STEM subjects.

This course will help you identify how to build a more inclusive classroom. By examining the challenges around diversity in STEM education, you’ll gain the knowledge and approaches to promote diversity in race and gender when developing or delivering STEM activities.

This course will further your professional development as a school volunteer, ensuring you understand the current best practice approaches to inclusivity within STEM education.

This course has been created for anyone volunteering with young people in STEM. You may be part of a formal volunteering scheme and known as a STEM champion or STEM ambassador, or you may be a youth volunteering group organiser, field trip educator, working with scout groups (and similar), outdoor pursuit centres, outreach from NGOs.
