If you do any type of online marketing then you probably know that a robust email list is among the most powerful tools. A lot of focus is placed on driving traffic to your website, but once visitors are there, you'll want to capture their details for future marketing.

Squarespace websites have some of the most elegant and user friendly templates out there, and they’re especially popular with creative freelancers for just that reason. Sometimes, though, the widgets and blocks used to build Squarespace sites require creative workarounds to get just the level of customization you want.

All 5 techniques I'll teach you are possible with only a very basic working knowledge of Squarespace, and only two of them require custom code — but fear not! I literally give you the exact code you need to copy/paste so the process is entirely foolproof.

• Redirect visitors to a custom thank you page when they submit your contact form. This is an important function lacking in current Squarespace offerings, but my workaround will allow you to capture your audience's attention longer. A custom redirect page can include a simple note of thanks, ads for products, or prompts to follow you on social media.
• Offer free, downloadable content to your audience via buttons and text links.
• Capture visitors' email addresses in exchange for free downloads and/or coupon codes. (This is a great hack, and an easy way to entice visitors to sign up for your newsletter!)
• Style the text within your form pop-up windows and newsletter confirmation fields, for a professional look consistent with your site's look and feel.
• Use a cover (a.k.a. landing) page to offer free downloads or coupons in exchange for email sign-ups, and redirect those form submissions to a trackable, custom thank you page.
