12 Habits to Become a Great Singer + Singing Exercises
Offered By: Skillshare
Course Description
Overview
In this class I will share with you the 12 HABITS that have been game changers for me during the last years as a professional singer.
- HABIT NR.1 - Always Warm Up: includes a practical guide for warming up your body and gently waking up your voice + cheat sheet in PDF (download it on the PROJECT SECTION). This warm up is ideal for every morning or just before your singing practice.
- HABIT NR. 2 - Mind Your Posture: 6 tips that make such a difference! Posture plays such an important role in singing and voice production in general. And it can be improved with so little effort with the right tips!
- HABIT NR. 3 - Practice Breathing Exercises: Check my last Skillshare Class for in depth practical breathing exercises: https://skl.sh/2Tyt8Bb
- HABIT NR. 4 - Tap Into Your Voice: How to start your practice and gently start warming up your voice. Using the Pavlov Effect to your advantage in singing.
- HABIT NR. 5 - Sing From Your Support: The golden rule!! Most vocal problems come from not engaging with our body correctly when singing. Using your support is a constant feeling that should be always present. Breathing exercises can help you a lot with this as well!
- HABIT NR. 6 - Know Your Registers: Each register is attached to specific vocal characteristics that allow you to tap into pure chest voice or pure head voice. I’ll give you practical advice and demonstrate with examples. You’ll be able to connect with each specific register and develop your voice from there.
- HABIT NR. 7 - Keep Your Vowels Clear BUT in the Same Place: Make vowels work FOR YOU and not AGAINST YOU. I share an extremely useful exercise that was a game changer for me! Vowels are “made” from different formants. Formants give clarity and distinctive characteristics to each vowel. With this exercise you’ll learn to keep your voice on track, while keeping each vowel’s different formants.
- HABIT NR. 8 - Work with Patterns: includes several ideas and tips to incorporate musical patterns into your daily practice and easily tackle difficult music sections and track your progress.
- HABIT NR. 9 - Use Dynamics: How to take your expression of the music to the next level.
- HABIT NR. 10 - Keep Grounded Whatever Happens: A habit to take into consideration both physically and psychologically. Singing is a game of balance between physical and psychological factors. Learning how to keep grounded in both worlds and bringing them together is the every day challenge of singers.
- HABIT NR. 11 - Cool Down and Build Muscle Memory: How cooling down can be as important as warming up and how it can become one of the best tools to build muscle memory and to keep making skyrocketing progress.
- HABIT NR. 12 - Practice Makes the Master: Last but not least, how to keep being consistent and stick to your habits. You can also check the link for this amazing Skillshare lesson by Thomas Frank on how to build habits that last: https://skl.sh/2Y3dyPa
The combination of these 12 lessons can also be used as a great guide of essentials for success in singing! The majority of Habits is inspired on basic technical principles that every singer will go though at some point when learning to sing. In addition, every lesson is accompanied by practical exercises and examples!
I’m here to help you improve your singing, becoming the best singer you can be and encourage you to take the most out of these singing classes! So if you have any doubt or question about the exercises we explore in the lessons, make sure to leave a comment on the Discussion section.
