World Music

This music survey course explores the music cultures of Asia; the Middle East; Africa; Central and South America; the Caribbean; and other areas with resident populations in San Diego. Musical practices and perspectives from several music cultures are studied with an emphasis on understanding and appreciation from non-ethnocentric viewpoints. Listening perception is developed through lectures and multimedia presentations. This course is intended for students majoring in music or anyone interested in music and culture.
