Course Description

Overview

5G mobile networks require more than just new radio hardware to accommodate next generation network needs. Learn how Multi-Access Edge Computing will bring cloud data centers right to the edge of the mobile network.

5G mobile networks will bring high speed, low latency Internet and cloud access to our smartphones and next-generation technology, like self-driving vehicles. In this course, Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC): Executive Briefing, you will learn the foundations of how MEC will bring Internet and cloud services right to the edge of the mobile network. First, you will explore the types of technology that are driving the need for next-generation mobile networks. Then, you will discover how LTE systems deliver internet to mobile handsets and see, via a demonstration, the latency difference between a business Internet connection and an LTE Internet connection. Finally, you will look at how MEC will be deployed and examine the technical gaps which require new protocols and hardware to deliver MEC and next-generation mobile networks. By the end of this short course, you will understand what MEC is, why we need it, and how it will be deployed.
