Syllabus

Courses under this program:
Course 1: Working with Motion & Time
-

The first course in the Photographer to Video in Today's Gig Economy program, Working with Motion & Time, is a deep dive from photography to videography, and shows you how to think in motion. Many of the core concepts carried over from still photography are the same, but putting your camera and scene in motion opens up a new world of possibilities and demands. You will learn how to add motion where there is none, and to control focus, light and sound.

Course 2: Camera Essentials
-

This second course in the Photographer to Video in Today's Gig Economy program will provide an understanding of the camera settings and gear that is used in professional DSLR and mirrorless video production. We will cover the basics of camera systems and lenses, including achieving perfect exposure and great color, and will also dig into lighting and camera support. This course will lead you through a smooth transition from still photographer to video professional.

Course 3: Sound Essentials
-

As the name suggests, Sound Essentials covers an entirely new dimension that can make or break your video work. The third course in Photographer to Video in Today's Gig Economy explores how sound carries emotion and impacts the depth and tone of your stories. The tools, the terminology and the language of sound production often feel foreign to photographers, but this class will provide a thorough foundation which will get you recording professional sound in no time.

Course 4: Fundamentals of Video Production
-

This course will teach students the tools and resources necessary to prepare their next film shoot, covering everything from storyboarding to location scouting to the most essential gear used in both the pre-production and production stages.

Course 5: Fundamentals of Post-Production
-

If the negative comes alive in the darkroom, then a film comes alive in the edit bay. There is a lot an editor must know to keep organized and hold onto the director’s creative vision. In addition, a videographer with knowledge of how the footage will be cut and assembled will be a much stronger shooter. In this class you will jump into the art of editing your work, exploring the tools, workflows and practice of editing.
