Overview
The aim of this course is to provide the theoretical and practical scientific, methodological and technology basis involved in ontology development. Ontologies will be used in building applications that integrate, combine and deduce distributed and heterogeneous information. In particular, we will present: the concepts and theoretical foundations of ontologies, the most well-known ontologies, the ontology design patterns; the NeOn Methodology for the development of ontologies as well as the methodological guidelines for different activities involved in ontology building; diverse techniques for aligning and merging ontologies; and the models for lexicalizing and localizing ontologies into different natural languages. We will also present different types of tools that can be used during the ontology development.
