Course Description
Overview
This course provides learners with the foundational skills necessary to excel in mathematics. For school leavers, it acts as a bridge between their prior educational experiences and the requirements of tertiary education. Professionals who want to refresh their knowledge or return to higher education will benefit from the course's tools and techniques, equipping them to effectively communicate their mathematical ideas in a business or an academic setting.
This standalone course may assist learners who wish to undertake AdelaideX’s MathTrackX XSeries Program, however, it is not a mandatory course within the MathTrackX Program.
Syllabus
Topics:
1. Operations on Natural numbers and integers and their operations.
2. Rational numbers and their operations.
3. Decimals and percentages and their operations.
4. Length and area. Time and speed.
5. Sets in the number line.
6. Solving equations and inequalities.
7. Sets in the plane. Straight lines.
Each topic will contain:
• a small number of introductory or explanation videos, some text explanations, examples and summaries
• several worked example videos
• some dynamic animation activities made using GeoGebra
• discussion activities
• several “streak tests”, which are one-question quizzes that can be tried over and over until mastery
