Lab - Amazon DocumentDB Lab - Performance Tuning Techniques
Offered By: Amazon Web Services via AWS Skill Builder
Course Description
Overview
In this lab, take on the role of a database administrator for AnyCompany. Monitor, diagnose, and tune the Amazon DocumentDB database for performance.
You monitor and diagnose DocumentDB performance issues using CloudWatch metrics and Performance Insights data. You identify the causes for poor cluster performance. Finally, you apply tuning techniques such as adding indexes, distributing reads to replicas, to improve overall performance and scalability.
Objectives
- Monitor Amazon DocumentDB performance using CloudWatch dashboards.
- Analyze database operations with Performance Insights to identify bottlenecks.
- Diagnose root causes like missing indexes, slow queries, configuration issues.
- Optimize frequently requested queries by indexing collections on the right set of attributes.
- Update application to leverage read replicas to distribute read workload.
- Validate performance improvements resulting from tuning activities.
- Understand real-world strategies for optimizing DocumentDB read workloads.
Prerequisites
Experience with
- Building and querying Amazon DocumentDB databases.
- Database indexing concepts.
- Basic database performance tuning.
Outline
Task 1: Identify performance bottlenecks
Task 2: Optimize application configuration
Task 3: Optimize query performance
