Course Description
Overview
Teaching Adult Piano offers insights and practical advice for teaching piano to adults, a growing population in many studios. Topics explored include studio policies, how adults learn, repertoire, and the various health issues teachers may encounter when working with adults.
This is a fully online course comprised of video and written materials from the following sources: Keyboard Companion, Clavier Companion, Piano Magazine, Teaching Foundational Technique, Inspiring Artistry, From the Artist Bench, and webinars.
This is a self-guided microcourse. Questions at the conclusion of each session serve as a way to reflect on the content. You will not respond to these questions on the platform, but you may wish to complete the activities for your own personal use.

- This session will summarize teaching while considering the health factors in playing the piano.
- Choosing Repertoire for Adults
- This session will cover facilitating adult learning and choosing repertoire for adult students.
- The Adult Studio
- This session will cover the question "What is learning?," andragogy, to studio policies for adult students.
- How Adults Learn
- This session will cover teaching adults with Marvin Blickenstaff.
