Course Description
Overview
This course introduces three-dimensional composition of modules, basic form and volume principles, and form-based (three-dimensional) operational and ordering strategies. We will focus on the relationships between form and space with basic ingredients such as planes, surfaces, masses, and volumes. Students will produce physical and digital working models of their module studies as well as generating plan and section drawing types.
Syllabus
- Interlocking Spatial Systems
- This session introduces plan and section drawing types and conventions. The model from the previous session will be sliced and drawn to reveal unique spatial opportunities and sequences through drawing development.
- Aggregating Modules
- This session reinforces an understanding of geometric operations. We will aggregate our three-dimensional modules into a larger form via digital modeling.
- Breaking the Cube
- In this session we will work in reverse, starting with a cube, and breaking, sliding, and folding its planes to create a spatial construct. Digital and physical models will be necessary to complete this investigation.
- Ordering 3D Modules
- This session reinforces an understanding of ordering systems using three-dimensional modules. The focus is primarily on physical and digital modeling.
