Course Description

Overview

The goal of this training is to put providers and provider organizations in Illinois in direct contact with a panel of infectious disease experts who can break down recent developments surrounding COVID-19 and provide strategies for clinical conversations around COVID-19 care & COVID-19 vaccine implementation.

Syllabus

After this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss COVID-19 vaccine safety and how to communicate vaccine safety to the populations served by free & charitable clinics;
  • Identify evidence-based information on integrating the COVID-19 vaccine into clinical workflows;
  • Discuss what is known about different variants in the United States and how they impact the efficacy of the vaccine;
  • State appropriate evidence-based post-vaccine behaviors, e.g., the newest guidance which indicates what can and cannot be done after being vaccinated in terms of travel, mask use, and meeting others;
  • Recall processes for identifying unvaccinated patients and how to embed reminders for vaccines;
  • Discuss strategies to overcome vaccine hesitancy through culturally and linguistically appropriate methods;
  • Recognize drivers of the changing epidemiological profile of COVID-19 like more infections among youths, what’s driving these cases, and the upsurge of infections despite vaccination;
  • Explain how to manage patients post-COVID, e.g., treatments, cardiovascular screening, and signs of long-COVID.
