“I am a Lieutenant Colonel in passive service of the Ecuadorian Transit Commission and a teacher at Condues (Training School for Professional Drivers) in Guayaquil, and this course allowed me to understand the reality of statistics and the problems at the regional level in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as the actions and projections to achieve a reduction in traffic crashes in my country and the others around the region."
Can you imagine being able to contrast your opinions and experiences with people like Lieutenant Colonel Enrique from Ecuador or other practicing public managers and representatives of Civil Society organizations from all over the region? In this course, you will have that opportunity and also access to videos of international specialists from various organizations (IDB, PAHO / WHO, WRI, LatinNCAP, among others), readings, best practices in the Caribbean region, recommendations, practical activities, and discussion forums.
As traffic crashes are one of the main causes of death in Latin America and the Caribbean, their consequences are immediate and generate a great social and economic burden.
Be a part of the change now, and let's make safe mobility a reality!

Do you know that 18% of road crashes could be related to the quality of road infrastructure?
Studies pointed out that unlocking the potential of USD 1.4 trillion in targeted investment in safer roads would achieve 467 thousand lives a year.
Are road investments enough?
In a world where mobility patterns change fast due mainly to urbanization in Latin American and Caribbean countries, we should break the old concepts of car-oriented road design and move to more inclusive roads for all users. More than road investments, road engineers and public officers should learn the new concepts of road design, how to assess the quality of road networks from a safety standpoint and apply the right tools to build a more forgiving road.
In this course, you will learn more about the importance of road safety audits and inspections (RSAs and RSIs) for safer road infrastructure. The course will explore the RSAs’ methodologies and good practices worldwide, especially, in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Through readings, videos, hands-on activities, and examples from countries around the world, the course will support the learners in changing road design practices.
Enjoy the second course from the Road Safety series and be prepared to apply these concepts to build a safer road in your country!

Do you know that in most of the Latin America and the Caribbean countries, more than half of the road traffic fatalities are “vulnerable users”?
Studies have shown that most of the world’s traffic deaths and injuries occur in low- and middle-income countries—and the share is rising; more than half of the victims will be pedestrians and cyclists in urban areas. Low- and middle-income countries also have higher levels of traffic deaths among pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorcyclists.
Are these enough reasons to get interested in urban mobility?
In Latin America and the Caribbean mobility patterns are changing due to rapid urbanization. We should take this opportunity to challenge the current reality in which cities are built for cars and reshape them into cities for people, reclaiming the streets and public places, making urban mobility more inclusive, safe, and accessible for everyone, particularly for the so-called “vulnerable users”.
In this course, you will learn more about the importance of speed management, safe infrastructure for active mobility such as walking and cycling, and how to effectively combine this knowledge with communication strategies, so you can be part of the task force that is working to improve road safety in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Through readings, videos, hands-on activities, and examples from different countries of the region, this course will support the learners in identifying and applying effective interventions to improve urban mobility.
Enjoy the third course from the Road Safety series, and be prepared to apply these concepts toward safer mobility for all!
