Course Description

Overview

Understand the basic concepts of using and interpreting cardiac computed tomography (CT) and cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) through didactic lectures with high quality animations, whilst also having hands-on experience to analyze real clinical cases.

The course is delivered by world-renowned radiologists and cardiologists, and helps you obtain the career advice and expertise in cardiac CT and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). This program combines fundamental knowledge and skills with advanced technological developments in the field. Topics such as coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy, heart failure, structural heart disease and congenital heart disease will be covered. Cardiac CT and cardiac MR techniques such as CT angiography (CTA), CT-FFR, CT for transcatheter aortic valve replacement/ implantation (TAVR/ TAVI), stress perfusion CMR for ischemic heart disease, CMR for vascular disease, MRI coronary angiography and CMR for pediatric patients will be delivered with the state of the art animations. Clinical cases will also be provided to allow you to learn post-processing skills for CT and MRI cases.

By the end of this program, you will be equipped with a solid understanding of cardiac CT and cardiac MRI with practical skills on assessing cardiac CT and cardiac MRI images.

    This course, developed by the Department of Diagnostic Radiology, The University of Hong Kong in collaboration with committee members of international and national cardiac imaging societies, is for radiologists, cardiologists, radiographers/ technologists and other health professionals who want to learn more about this imaging modality. The course follows the level 1 recommendations of cardiac imaging societies by covering the required topics and providing 50 hands-on cardiac CT cases. Previous experience in cardiac CT is not required.

    Learning outcomes:

    1. Understanding of the common cardiac CT examinations in order to better understand how to acquire cardiac images and to interpret them.
    2. Ability to analyse cardiac CT images at level 1 competency such as calcium score, CT coronary angiography, TAVI.
    3. Attain hands-on experience to analyse real cases from a database of 50 clinical cases, using dedicated software, as well as further supplementation through our web forum.
    4. Basic understanding of future developments in the cardiac CT field.
    5. Provide career advice and thoughts from well-known experts through exclusive interviews.

    A MOOC on cardiovascular magnetic resonance will be available on this platform in the near future. Watch this space!

    This course is for radiologists, cardiologists, radiographers/ technologists and other health professionals who want to learn more about cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (CMR). Previous experience in CMR is not required.

    1. Understanding of the basic CMR physics and sequences in order to better understand how to acquire cardiac images and how to assess commonly used sequences (eg. Steady state free precession sequence, phase contrast to measure blood flow, T2* and magnetic resonance angiography).
    2. Understand the safety profile and risks of contrast agents used in CMR.
    3. Ability to analyse CMR images at SCMR level 1 competency such as stress perfusion, late gadolinium enhancement and post-processing for ventricular function.
    4. Attain hands-on experience to analyse real clinical cases from a database of 50 clinical cases, using dedicated CMR software, as well as further supplementation through our web forum.
    5. Basic understanding of future developments in the CMR field such as exercise CMR, artificial intelligence, feature tracking, T1 and T2 mapping.
    6. Provide career advice and thoughts from well-known CMR experts through exclusive interviews.

    A MOOC on cardiac computed tomography (CT) is also available on this platform in order to introduce you to this complementary cardiovascular imaging technique.
