Course Description

Overview

What if you could become really good at both giving and receiving feedback? Imagine the effect that would have on your overall development, as well as on the various relationships you have in both your professional and personal life. Your ability to grow and improve would expand dramatically. So would the positive impact you could have on the people with whom you interact and collaborate the most. This first course in the four-part specialization “Feedback Loops: How to Give & Receive High-Quality Feedback" will help you reap those benefits.

Syllabus

  • Feedback Deserts
    • How do you know if you are in a Feedback Desert? How do you break out of a Feedback Rut? We'll answer both of these questions this week. We'll also learn a helpful feedback framework: "Keep/Cut"
  • E-D-I-T
    • Wouldn't it be nice to have a helpful, systematic approach to giving people feedback? The "E-D-I-T" framework could be just that.
  • Self-Assessments, Self-Delusion
    • Why are we often so bad at giving ourselves feedback? What can we do to address this problem? And what's the proper mix of "challenge" and "recovery" when designing everything from work schedules to class schedules to expectations regarding email and downtime?
  • Noise Pollution
    • Is "bias" the same thing as "noise"? Are there ways we can protect both from tainting our decision making?
