Course Description

Overview

Infuse geographic context into the entire project life cycle.

Discover what's possible when you integrate computer-aided design (CAD) data and building information models (BIM) with geographic information systems (GIS) technology. This course is for GIS and architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) professionals and anyone else who wants to improve project decision-making, gain critical insights, and deliver more sustainable infrastructure, more efficiently. You'll explore powerful GIS visualization and spatial analysis capabilities and see firsthand how location-based insight enhances each phase of the project life cycle—from planning and design to construction and ongoing operations.

  • For the latest updates, information, and sneak previews, join the course LinkedIn group.

Goals

  • Create highly realistic project visualizations using a building information model, 3D mesh, and scene layer.
  • Inform and optimize project design by analyzing place-based factors.
  • Monitor job site progress using drone-captured imagery and dashboards.
  • Fuel stakeholder collaboration and minimize delays by sharing project data and visualizations to an easily accessible cloud location.

Suggested Skills

Familiarity with GIS concepts and ArcGIS Pro will be helpful but is not required.

Software

Esri provides free access to ArcGIS Pro 3.0, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Spatial Analyst, ArcGIS 3D Analyst, and ArcGIS Drone2Map software for use in the course exercises. To complete course exercises, you must use a machine that meets the ArcGIS Pro system requirements.

-Note: Three course exercises use ArcGIS Pro 3.0. If your organization uses ArcGIS Pro 2.x, consider completing the hands-on exercises using a workplace machine that doesn't have ArcGIS Pro installed on it or a home PC that meets the ArcGIS Pro system requirements.

A broadband Internet connection and a web browser that allows access to PDF files and embedded video files are required. For the best experience, we recommend using the latest version of Google Chrome, Apple Safari, or Microsoft Edge and a desktop computer, laptop, or tablet.
