Overview
Natural disasters, poverty, conflict, injustice.
All around the world, the environment in which development and humanitarian workers find themselves is more complex and diverse than ever.
These degrees – developed in association with Save the Children – build a unique, global platform where development & humanitarian practitioners and academics can share knowledge and experience, with a focus on improving leadership, preparedness and response capacities to national and international emergencies and developmental issues.
Syllabus
Acquire advanced and integrated understanding of development and humanitarian action and expert cognitive skills in the synthesis, and application of theory and practice in development and humanitarian action within diverse disciplinary contexts and worldviews.

Explore guiding principles and approaches used by humanitarian teams.
Earthquake, flood, fire, famine, and conflict – we seem to be hearing more about these things every day, and watching as they impact communities all over the world. Fortunately, there are organisations trained and ready to assist communities affected by disasters.
On this course, you will explore the long history of humanitarianism, learning about the important principles and values that underpin it. You’ll also discover how humanitarianism works across the globe, understanding how responses to disasters are coordinated and learning more about the various bodies involved.
This course is designed for those working in the humanitarian sector who want to further their understanding of the principles and values of humanitarianism.
It’s also suitable for those with an interest in activism, humanitarian issues, and leadership in the context of humanitarian aid and NGOs.

Explore the relationship between humans and the environment
This online course explores why and how human activity impacts negatively on the environment, why this is important, and what we are trying to do about it.
