Syllabus

  • Chapter 1 - Introduction
    • In this module, we will outline the objectives of the course and review the background knowledge necessary for success. We will also explore the significance of planning, including how to use key planning metrics to monitor and control project progress.
  • Chapter 2 - Creating a Project Plan
    • In this module, we will explore how to utilize planning and scheduling software effectively. You will learn foundational project planning concepts without resource allocation and delve into advanced planning levels, including resource management and scheduling.
  • Chapter 3 - Starting Up and Navigation
    • In this module, we will guide you through logging into the software and managing multiple projects simultaneously. You will also learn to personalize the layout and toolbars for improved workflow, and participate in a workshop to practice navigating the software interface.
  • Chapter 4 - Creating a New Project
    • In this module, we will show you how to start new projects from scratch or import existing ones. You will be guided through the initial setup process, followed by a workshop where you will practice creating and setting up your own project.
  • Chapter 5 - Defining Calendars
    • In this module, we will explore how to define and manage various types of project calendars, including default and resource-specific calendars. You will also learn to calculate activity durations in days, weeks, or months, followed by a workshop on maintaining and updating calendars.
  • Chapter 6 - Creating a Primavera Project WBS
    • In this module, we will cover how to access and navigate the WBS window, explaining the use of node separators. You will also engage in a workshop to develop a detailed Work Breakdown Structure for your project.
  • Chapter 7 - Adding Activities and Organizing Under the WBS
    • In this module, we will focus on adding new activities to your project, including configuring default settings and importing activities from other programs. You will also learn how to organize these activities under specific WBS nodes, with a workshop to practice these skills.
  • Chapter 8 - Formatting the Display
    • In this module, we will explore various formatting options, including customizing the project window and adjusting bar displays for clearer representation. You will also learn to display progress lines on the Gantt chart and practice bar chart formatting in a workshop.
  • Chapter 9 - Adding Relationships
    • In this module, we will cover the fundamentals of activity relationships and dependencies in project management. You will also learn to add and manage relationships, leads, and lags, and engage in a workshop to practice these skills in your project.
  • Chapter 10 - Activity Network View
    • In this module, we will teach you how to visualize and manage your project using the activity network view. You will also learn techniques for reorganizing and optimizing the network, followed by a workshop on scheduling calculations.
  • Chapter 11 - Constraints
    • In this module, we will focus on how to assign and manage project constraints, including setting "must-finish-by" dates. You will also participate in a workshop to practice applying and managing constraints within your project schedule.
