Take your 3D modelling and rendering skills to the next level with this advanced course, designed for artists looking to create high-quality assets for Unreal Engine 5. You will begin by mastering the export of Blender assets, ensuring compatibility for game engines. From there, you’ll learn the ins and outs of Unreal Engine 5, starting with project setup and UI navigation, before diving into asset importation, material assignments, and PBR texture adjustments. The course will guide you through advanced material handling, including transparency, metal materials, and decal creation, all tailored for Unreal Engine 5. You’ll also learn to set up collisions, physics-based props, and optimized prefab collections to create interactive environments. A detailed section on using the Niagara Particle System will teach you how to create realistic fire and flickering lights for torches and candles, adding dynamic effects to your scenes. By the end of the course, you’ll have a complete set of game-ready assets, fully integrated into Unreal Engine 5, and ready for real-time rendering. You’ll gain skills in material optimization, texture management, and scene setup to enhance your portfolio and make your projects stand out in professional game development. This course is designed for advanced 3D artists and game developers familiar with Blender and Unreal Engine 5. A strong understanding of 3D modelling and texturing workflows is required.

Syllabus

  • Exporting Blender Assets
    • In this module, we will focus on exporting your 3D assets from Blender in the FBX format, ensuring they are optimized for use in Unreal Engine 5. You will learn how to conduct compatibility checks and apply settings to maintain asset integrity during the export process.
  • Introduction to Unreal Engine
    • In this module, we will introduce you to Unreal Engine 5 by creating a new project and setting it up for optimal performance. You’ll get familiar with the user interface and learn to navigate and manipulate objects within the viewport, laying the foundation for efficient scene management.
  • Importing Assets to UE5
    • In this module, we will import your 3D models from Blender into Unreal Engine 5, ensuring proper scaling and organization. You’ll also learn how to import texture maps and configure them for optimal PBR material workflow within the engine.
  • Reassigning Material Instances
    • In this module, we will focus on reassigning and organizing material instances in Unreal Engine 5. You will learn how to name and apply material instances to your assets, ensuring consistency with the original textures.
  • Adjusting Texture for Our PBR materials
    • In this module, we will fine-tune texture maps for PBR materials by adjusting roughness and normal intensity. These tweaks will allow you to achieve more realistic surface textures in your game environment.
  • Setting Up Metal Material
    • In this module, we will create metal materials for your assets, focusing on refining texture and reference settings. You will learn to apply detailed metal textures to enhance the realism of your 3D models in Unreal Engine 5.
  • Creating Parameters to Adjust Our Material Instances
    • In this module, we will add parameter controls for roughness and base color within Unreal Engine 5 material instances. This will allow you to create more flexible and varied textures for your game assets.
  • Assigning Multiple Textures
    • In this module, you will learn to streamline the application of material textures to your assets, speeding up the process and maintaining visual consistency across your project.
  • Working with Transparency
    • In this module, we will explore the use of transparency in materials, from basic opacity to advanced refractive effects. You will learn to create transparent textures for props like feathers and gemstones to enhance visual depth.
  • Creating Additional Color Control for Our Materials
    • In this module, we will add more color control options to your materials, allowing you to fine-tune saturation and contrast to meet the visual needs of your scene.
  • Working with Decal
    • In this module, we will cover the process of applying decals in Unreal Engine 5. You’ll learn to add blood decals using PBR textures and integrate them into your scene through blueprint setups for a more immersive experience.
  • Setting Up Transparency Overlay Materials
    • In this module, we will set up transparent overlay materials and apply them to specific assets, such as dungeon bed straws and sigils. This will help add intricate details to props, boosting realism in your game environment.
  • Working with Collisions in UE5
    • In this module, you will learn how to configure collisions for various assets, ensuring they interact properly with player characters and the game environment. We will also introduce physics-enabled props for added realism.
  • Setting Up Prop Collection Prefabs
    • In this module, we will organize your asset collection into prefabs, making it easier to reuse them across different projects. You will also learn to optimize collision settings for efficient game performance.
  • Creating Torches and Candles
    • In this module, we will focus on creating light-emitting props such as torches and candles. You will learn how to animate fire particles and set up light flickers to simulate a more organic and immersive light source.
  • Rendering Our work in UE5
    • In this module, we will prepare your scene for rendering by setting up camera angles and lighting. You will also create a turntable render to present your assets in a professional way for your portfolio or project showcase.
  • Setting Up 3D Prop Pack for Other Unreal Engine Projects
    • In this final module, we will export your asset pack for use in future projects. You’ll also see how to quickly transform a game level by integrating your 3D props, demonstrating the versatility of your completed prop collection.
