Course Description
Overview
Prerequisite: CIS-1. An introduction to the core concepts of data and information management focusing on modern database technologies and techniques. Emphasis on the core skills of identifying organizational information requirements, using conceptual data modeling techniques, converting conceptual data models into relational data models and verifying structural characteristics with normalization techniques, and implementing a relational database using an industrial-strength database management system and language. Includes coverage of basic database administration tasks and key concepts of data quality and data security. Develops an understanding of the dependence of large-scale packaged systems on the use of Database Management Systems (DBMSs). Introduction to data and information management technologies that provide decision-support capabilities under the broad business intelligence umbrella. (C-ID ITIS 180) Transfer: CSU
