Overview
This course explores the representation of gender in comic books, analyzing how characters and storylines reflect and challenge societal norms. Students will learn to critically examine the portrayal of gender in comics, understand the historical context of gender representation in the medium, and explore how creators have used comics to address issues of gender identity and equality. The course covers topics such as gender stereotypes, LGBTQ+ representation, and the evolution of female superheroes. Through readings, discussions, and assignments, students will develop the skills to deconstruct gender norms in comic books and gain a deeper understanding of the intersection of gender and popular culture.
