Overview

Stanford Center for Continuing Medical Education, Building A Culture of Health Equity Monthly Lecture Series: Women's History Month - Breaking The Bias In the Health Ecosystem (RECORDING), 3/24/2022 12:00:00 AM - 3/24/2025 12:00:00 AM, Internet Enduring Material Sponsored by Stanford University School of Medicine. Presented by the Stanford Center for Continuing Medical Education, the Stanford Medicine Health Equity Committee, and the Stanford Medicine Racial Equity to Advance a Community of Health (REACH) at Stanford University School of Medicine.

The 2022 Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day theme is #breakthebias. So, what does that mean in practice?   Women’s health remains an area with many challenges and stark disparities in health outcomes, especially among women from different racial and ethnic backgrounds. This is especially true in clinical research and treatment.  Typically, women with overlapping identities are excluded and initiatives that invest in women are developed from a lens that acknowledges the barriers that exist for women but ignores the privileges that exist for white/cis/het women. As they navigate challenges at the intersection of race and gender, it is impossible for women of color to separate their experiences as a woman from their racial identity.  This webinar will explore the business and societal case for breaking the bias in the health ecosystem so that the needle is moved to  advance health equity.

This recorded monthly webinar series will feature experts and leaders discussing strategies for promoting anti-racism in healthcare, addressing structural determinants of health, and identifying other root causes of health inequity. The overarching goal of each lecture will be to expand learners’ knowledge and pass along strategies that will help clinicians advance health equity at their home institutions and in practice.
