Make a difference in young people's lives with a child mental health master's
This master’s qualification in child mental health will significantly enhance your employability as a child and adolescent mental health expert in a wide range of settings including health and social care and education-related industries.
You’ll expand your knowledge of mental wellbeing issues affecting children and develop a range of practical and in-demand skills in child mental health.
You’ll cover topics such as children’s psychological development, child mental health conditions, research methodology, and the impact of family, societal, and cultural influences on a child’s mental wellbeing.
Syllabus
- Combine knowledge related to child and adolescent mental wellbeing, including cultural and social issues.
- Critically evaluate complex needs in children and young people’s mental health and examine the complex needs of the family.
- Critically evaluate and analyse children’s typical psychological development and how it can affect mental wellbeing in children and young people.
- Critically evaluate cultural, social and family issues which can influence child mental wellbeing with a focus on a national and international perspective
- Present a comprehensive analysis of child and adolescent mental health conditions
- Critically evaluate the application of knowledge, reasoning skills, reflection, and research into children’s mental wellbeing within an ethical and legal framework
- Demonstrate a critical understanding of alternative ontological, epistemological and methodological perspectives
- Identify and critically evaluate relevant concepts, models and principals that’s inform and illustrate the area of inquiry

Study the influence of society and social media on how we perceive mental health
The more we understand about mental health and mental illness, the more we can challenge and reduce social stigma.
On this course, you’ll learn what the mental health continuum is and why it’s important to learn about mental health in this way. You’ll enhance your mental health knowledge and gain a deeper understanding of mental illness through an exploration of some prevalent mental disorders.
You’ll also consider how social media impacts the way we perceive mental health and assess how our culture and society influence how we view and respond to mental illness.
The course has been created for anyone interested in learning more about mental health and mental illness and the influencing roles of social media and culture upon these.
It will be particularly useful for anyone interested in pursuing a career or further study in the field of mental health, such as our MSc Mental Health.
The more we understand about mental health and mental illness, the more we can challenge and reduce social stigma.
