Overview

Understand how AI and machine learning is influencing the legal world

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning are transforming the way our world works – and their influence is increasingly being felt in the legal profession.

On this four-week course, you’ll receive training in Python, a fundamental programming language, and learn about the tools used by programmers for coding and collaboration.

You’ll also explore essential AI and machine learning tools like Scikit-learn and Google’s TensorFlow.

This course builds on the foundation of AI for Legal Professionals (I): Law and Policy.

Unpack data mining and legal analytics

You’ll start by exploring common supervised and unsupervised machine learning problems, including classification, regression, clustering, and ranking.

Through this exploration, you’ll delve into tools such as Python, PyTorch, and RapidMiner to understand how to conduct data mining in law and information extraction from legal databases and texts.

Gain an understanding of natural language processing

Next, you’ll gain an introduction to natural language processing and machine learning techniques in law.

You’ll gain practical skills in research and knowledge acquisition techniques for law.

Explore legal reasoning and legal design

Finally, you’ll explore legal reasoning and how AI is influencing these methods for lawyers such as through computational modelling. You’ll also explore acquisition, storage, and management of legal data and how AI can help with this.

You’ll finish by delving into key topics such as Blockchain and law as well as legal design and legal forensics.

This course is designed for anyone who is interested in legal and policy issues regarding the development and application of artificial intelligence.

It is particularly aimed at lawyers and legal professionals who want to develop their knowledge of AI.
